1st Time Auditioning Member's Thread
Hey, I'm Douglas, and I am auditioning on contra. I figured this thread would be made eventually, so I started it. I marched Dutch Boy in 2008 as the drum major, and now I am goin' to a corps a little closer to home.
I teach the brass at Fruitport High School, and a bunch of my friends (2 contras, 2 mellos, a baritone, and a trumpet player) are all comin' with me to march here.
So, hello everyone : D
Oh wow, LOL!
Well, we shall meet as of Dec 11th, I am sure.
We're all vanpooling up, and my 2 contra friend (one's actually mr bro) are way excited about marching together and pumpin' out some sound.

Hi! I am coming to audition on contra too. I am a soph. at Valparaiso High School in Valparaiso, Indiana. We have a really great concert program at our school but we don't compete in marching band. I am really looking forward to camp in December.
It will be nice to meet you. Holy cow, the contra's gunna be a big section : D aweeessoommeee
The thought of 6 contras in 2010 opposed to 3 in 2009 excites me a lot. There were 9 baritones this summer, well technically 8 plus 1 euphonium. Legends hornline is going to be even more amazing this summer...
I KNOW!!
In case you couldn't guess, the count down on my facebook is to the first camp : D
BTW AJ, my brother who is auditioning is named AJ... so one of yah will need a nickname >> lol
Hah thats cool, we had like a million Alex's during '09.
Hi Douglas! I'm really glad to see that you're as excited for the coming season as I am! I can't wait to meet you and your friends at the audition camp.
Mike "Undies" Unsworth
hey everyone! i'm so excited for december, and i can't wait to meet you all!
yay forums :)
Great to see all of this excitement brewing out there as much as it is around here. Looking forward to starting this year already better than we were last year. See you in December!

(Battery Section Leader 07-10)
Excited to meet you, too Mike, and also Megan. BTW, what do you play Megan?
holy hornline! i'm totally pumped.
oh wow. i really hope i can march again this summer with all this talk of contras! go legends :]
Hey everybody!
Wow! All this talk of hornline is getting me super pumped! We're gonna have such an awesome sound! =D (I actually really wanted to try contra this year. I figured Noah could do it...why not me? hahaha). Oh! Ryan! I found two more guys that are coming to the December audition: a tenor, and a snare. Undies: I'm trying to bring both a trumpet and a baritone from my school.
Go Legends!
~Jenna Wojdula (Horn)
P.S. can't wait to meet everybody!
Dang, this is exciting.
I'm working on getting someone who is pretty good at color guard, and someone who is sweet at trumpet to come, I know she is auditioning for the new winter ensemble. Also working on my section leader in the front ensemble who play marimba.
I miss everyone!!!
See everyone in November and/or December!!!
~Anna
Hey it's AJ. I have a couple questions. First, am I the only one who goes to a school where they put all their time into concert music? All I know about this is what my cousin told me about his time with the Cav's. Second, what do I need to bring to first camp? Douglas, to keep from getting confused just call me Frosh (everyone in my band does).Other than that I can't wait to talk to all of you in person.
I'm excited to meet you all, and be a part of the soon to be large and awesome Legends contra section : )
also my name is Douglas Aaron Olmstead... everyone add me on facebook/myspace.
This is so awesome.
On a scale of 1 to awesome, awesome!
Jenna - that's fantastic. Good work.
To everyone else (new and old)... make sure you've filled out all the proper information here: http://legendspaa.org/drumcorps/apply
Please note that even if you have filled out a 2010 membership application already on the old website, you will need to fill out one on our new website. This will put you on our mailing list for camp information, allow you access to the new tools of our new website, and allow us to plan accordingly for your attendance. Thanks and we look forward to seeing you at the December Camp!
owen. i heart your coloring book picture. :)
Aww thanks, Megan Raedy drew it because she thought the dinosaur looked like me...
I am so bummed - I don't think I can make the first camp weekend :( Look forward to seeing/meeting you all
Awesome. Can't wait to see what Legends is going to do this year. It's been growing exponentially over the past four years, and this year will be just as impressive. I can feel it.
:)
Apparently this year we won't have a contra shortage.
Noah! Stagger breathe better!
This winter will be my first year with the Legends Indoor Ensemble.
Hopefully I'll be able to pick up a brass instrument quick enough...
SUPER EXCITED and I can't wait until the summer of 2011 when I can march with you guys!!!!!
54 days till December 11th (may be a day or too off, sometimes we get so excited we say what the next day is and got lost lol)
I too am trying out for contra! It will be a battle royal!
Shall we just call this the Contra/ Tuba thread?!
Mullen, somethin tells me unless they get 12+ contras, they won't turn any of us down. Lol
Sounds good to me on the contra forum idea lol
Hey everyone im Ryan....
Me and my friend are trying out for tenors this year. We're both sophmores, and we've never marched competitivly. This year is actually going to be the first year of our schools winter drumline.
So just to clarify, we are supposed to prepare all the stuff on the member docs for our section for the audition?
Really excited to meet you guys,
Ryan
Hi Ryan,
The resources page has information from last season and what we would typically expect for a marching member for the corps. We will have any new specific materials posted for auditions by mid-November.
Ibe
Hey, I'm Micah, I'm auditioning for snare this year and I'm starting to get really excited to try out. I was just wondering what model sticks are used by Legends.
We use Jim Casella's by Innovative Percussion.
Holy contra... =]
My count so far is at 8, for I just got another facebook message from someone auditionin' on contra.
Real question: how many of us who play multiple instruments (this might be suicide for me, but I play baritone/euph also... maybe I should keep meh mouth shut) are gunna be moved if the instrumentation is whack? lol
But 8 contras would be sweeeeeeettt... majorly since there were 3 last year.
I don't think Mark will complain...
Let's hope not, and...
52 days.
Contra bro reporting in. Marched Dutch 08 on baritone cause I was a baby.
Just kidding, they needed baritones.
Hey adding my name in there. I am Jason Taurins, currently a senior in high school. I am from Kelloggsville high school near Grand Rapids, MI. I have marched four years in high school, with one year as drum major. I have been playing trumpet since the 5th grade. I am looking to expand my knowledge and skills, and I am looking forward to meeting and working with you all :)
Dude. This. Is. Amazing.
All of the new people, bring bass drum players with you! :)
I'm Trevor Vader, and I'm hopefully gonna march trumpet with you guys this summer.
Hey I have heard of Kelloggsville! Solid. Oh yeah, TREVOR VADER you rock.
Agreed
Zac that is awesome! I am not sure that anyone from my high school has marched with Legends though...
Feel free to add me on Facebook: Jason Taurins from Grand Rapids, MI
