Indoor Ensemble

The Legends program is an indoor winter brass and percussion ensemble designed to give 8th thru 12th grade students the opportunity to perform challenging and exciting, original arrangements, and to receive top level instruction from some of the areas best brass and percussion instructors. The musical selections for this year are – Distorted and Alegria, from the music of Cirque Du Soleil and a collage of tunes that would be a Pops Concert portion of our program. These selections include Olympic Fanfare by John Williams, Frank Sinatra favorites, selections from the musical Wicked and Rent, and Back to the Future. Legends is currently in its 8th season of operations and as of last year we have opened this group up to students from all area schools.

Legends works in partnership with the Legends Performing Arts Association, which sponsors the Legends Drum and Bugle Corps.

REQUIREMENTS

1.  Participate in fundraising efforts

2.  Grades 8-12

3.  Attend all rehearsals and performances - We will work with students on this one, but it is the student's responsibility to inform both Mrs. Flynn and their main instructor of conflicts or illness via email, phone or in person prior to the absence.

4.  Students will not be allowed any unexcused absences. We want each student to take responsibility for their schedules and communicate openly with us so that we are able to plan rehearsals accordingly. Excused absences will be given either for an illness or for students who provides adequate notice of an absence.  


FEES & PAYMENT DUE DATE

$ 150.00 – Per student

Participation fee is due in full by the February 11, 2008 rehearsal in order to continue to participate
Checks can be made payable to PCHS Bands

These fees will cover the cost of top notch instruction, original music arrangements, and equipment needs for the season.   If needed a payment schedule can be worked out for this amount through Mrs. Flynn – rflynn@portageps.org or 323-5331.  All funds will be run through the Portage Central Bands. The band does not profit in any way from this program, but donates their time to manage the collection and payment of monies.


SCHEDULE
End of January – May 2007

Rehearsal/Performance Calendar

Two (2) rehearsals per week – Monday & Thursday evenings from 6-8:30pm or 9pm beginning January 21. Please see the attached calendar for specific dates and times. Meet in the Portage Central HS Band Room for each rehearsal.

Percussion have a required open house on December 19th from 6-9pm to determine instrument placement and ability of students in order to better arrange the percussion music before Rehearsals start at the end of January. Please email Mrs. Flynn ASAP if you absolutely cannot make it to this open house.
