Indoor Ensemble

The Legends program is an indoor winter brass and percussion ensemble designed to give 8th thru 12th grade students the opportunity to perform challenging and exciting, original arrangements, and to receive top level instruction from some of the areas best brass and percussion instructors. Legends is currently in its 9th season of operations and is open to students from all area schools.

Legends works in partnership with the Legends Performing Arts Association, which sponsors the Legends Drum and Bugle Corps.

ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS

1.    Students will participate in at least 1 of the 2 Car Wash Fundraisers in May.

2.    Students must be in grades 8-12.

3.    Students will attend all rehearsals and performances.  We will work with students on this one, but it is the students
  responsibility to inform BOTH Mrs. Flynn and their main instructor, of conflicts or illness via email, phone or in
  person prior to the absence.  When possible at least 2 weeks notice is expected). 

4.    Students will NOT be allowed ANY unexcused absences.  We want each student to take responsibility for their
  schedules and communicate openly with us so that we are able to plan rehearsals accordingly.  Excused absences will
  be given either for an illness or for students who provide notice to Mrs. Flynn by January 22nd or if other conflicts arise
  through the season adequate notice must be given.  One unexcused absence can result in the student’s removal from
  the ensemble.


TUITION

$ 175.00 – Per student, due in full by the January 22, 2009 Rehearsal, in order to continue to participate – Checks can be made payable to PCHS Bands

These fees, along with the Car Wash Fundraisers, will cover the cost this program, as well as a newly designed legends polo shirt.  We pride ourselves on providing top notch instruction for the students, as well as having original music arrangements for the ensemble.  If needed a payment schedule can be worked out for this amount through Mrs. Flynn – rflynn@portageps.org or 323-5331.  Please do not hesitate to call! 

All funds will be run through the Portage Central Bands.  The band does not profit in any way from this program, but donates their time to manage the collection and payment of monies.


REHEARSAL AND PERFORMANCE SCHEDULE
Legends Indoor 2009 - Schedule

End of January – May 2009

Two (2) rehearsals per week – Monday & Thursday evenings from 6-8:30pm or 9pm beginning in January. Meet in the Portage Central HS Band Room for each rehearsal.

Percussion have a required open house in December from 6-9pm to determine instrument placement and ability of students in order to better arrange the percussion music before Rehearsals start at the end of January.  Please email Mrs. Flynn ASAP if you absolutely cannot make it to this open house.

UNIFORM

Students will wear their Legends Polo Shirt, black pants and shoes for each performance.  We are introducing a new shirt design this year, so all students in the ensemble must purchase a polo this year.  The cost has been built into the tuition for the season.
