2001

The "Portage Central Brass and Percussion Ensemble" was formed.  This ensemble was founded by Ibe Sodawalla with the assistance of Tim Overturf.  This effort was supported by Pat Flynn and the support of the Portage Central Bands.  The primary focus of this group was to provide an instruction based performance ensemble in the areas of brass and rudimental percussion.  Membership was available to students at Portage Central High School.  The ensemble met 2-3 nights per week at 2-3 hours per rehearsal at Portage Central High School.

2002

The name "Legends" replaced "Portage Central Brass and Percussion."  The addition of the front ensemble was made possible with growing numbers and was led by Jeff Link.  With growing interest, membership was offered to middle school students in the Portage area.  Also, members came from Portage Northern High School and Kalamazoo Christian High School.  A professional on site recording session was added to the experience, which was recorded by Kevin Brown of Brown and Brown Studios.  The ensemble met 2 nights per week at 3 hours per rehearsal at Portage Central High School.

2003

Some would say that 2003 was our signature year.  We made our debut performance in the Michigan Color Guard Circuit (MCGC) and was well received by the "indoor" community.  Two major fundraisers were added to the program:  March Madness Pop Can Drive and a Car Wash.  The format included more selections to bring focus on all aspects of listening and coordination: a full ensemble work, brass and front ensemble work, and a percussion only work.
